Teacher: How my job went from great to infuriating
Here’s a call for the end of high-stakes standardized tests from a teacher who chronicles how school reform forced him to change how he taught.
In preparing to teach next year, well this year, the fundamental question that I continue to ask myself is simple. Shall I teach to memorize and regurgitate or will it be about liberatory praxis? However, the answer is much more complicated, where liberation requires a degree dominate narrative mimicry for survival. In fact, students of color and queer folks and women folk, must know the dominant narrative much better than those who rely on it for subordination, power and influence. #Survivance.
